Time Out Dubai staff
In a tweet: A relaxed pan-Asian brunch with Marina views. Best for chilling out.
Located on the third floor of Pier 7, Cargo has great views over Dubai Marina, and makes the most of them with floor-to-ceiling windows and an outside terrace. Inside, Cargo is Asian-inspired, with a contemporary and sophisticated red and black colour scheme.
The brunch package offers a wide selection of Asian starters, which are brought to the table on platters for sharing. Meat and vegetarian spring rolls, sushi, bowls of salted edamame beans, and skewered chicken are included. Diners can request more of the starters and there’s also a choice of tom yum and noodle soups. When ready to move on to mains, diners can order one dish each from a select menu, which includes curries, stir fries and seafood. All the food is served to your table.
The drinks: Beverages here include a selection of juices and house shorts, which the staff are very good at replenishing. The only downside is that teas and coffees are not included in the soft drinks package.
The crowd: Cargo attracts a varied crowd, being popular with large groups, families and couples. The venue is not particularly family friendly, though, as there are no designated areas for young children.
The dress code: Casual is acceptable here, though you might want to smarten up a little if you’re planning to head on elsewhere after.
The service: Service is friendly and efficient, and staff are happy to offer you more drinks and food. The brunch is served to your table, so they are regularly checking to make sure you’re well stocked.
Extras & entertainment: Nothing of note.
Highs & lows: There is certainly plenty of food, the range of starters is good and the staff keep it coming. Dessert is disappointing, with the only available dish available on our visit being a strawberry cheesecake, while the advertised dessert station was non-existent.
The after party: There are plenty of options within Pier 7, or by talking a short walk to JBR.
