We help you pick out some inventive Eid gifts and bring you news of two
new openings Downtown…
This week, we’re gearing up for Eid. Since the celebration is very nearly upon us, our minds have wandered towards finding suitable gifts, and we’ve found an interesting selection to share with you.
First up is the obvious choice – confectionary. Chocolatier Forrey & Galland has launched a dedicated collection, which includes locally inspired flavours such as halwa with chocolate and rose truffles made with real rose petals from Taif (a city in the Mecca Province of Saudi Arabia at an elevation of 1,879 metres on the slopes of the Sarawat Mountains).
To add some foreign flavour to your Eid gift, head to Japanese confectionary store Yoku Moku, which has been fast expanding across Dubai. It specialises in butter biscuits infused with different flavours such as chocolate and tea, and has introduced gift boxes especially for Eid, featuring Arabesque designs on the front of them.
We’ve also found something a little more unexpected among the gifts on offer for this time of year – courtesy of Vimto. Head to Bloomingdale’s in The Dubai Mall where for Dhs35, you’ll be able to pick up a bottle of Vimto (complete with gift box) that can be personalised with the name of the friend or family member you’re giving it to. Certainly a one-off, and certainly something a little different.
In other news, we’ve discovered two new eateries for you to try. There’s Dusty’s Dubai, a cool-looking venue with graffiti-esque art lining the walls, which has just opened in Al Fattan Currency House, DIFC, and there’s Dubai’s latest healthy eating café, Sol’s Eatery, located in The Oberoi Centre (part of The Oberoi hotel) in Business Bay. It serves plenty of fresh smoothie combinations including avocado and chocolate, and strawberry and kiwi, as well as breakfast items such as zaatar and labneh wraps, egg muffins and a steak and egg burrito.
Desserts also feature yet more avocado teamed with chocolate, but this time in the form of brownies.
