This award-winning Lebanese street food joint won’t disappoint
Time Out Dubai staff
Winning Time Out Dubai’s Best Budget restaurant award last year and coming highly commended in the category this year is testament to the quality on offer at this perennially popular spot. The number of people ordering, eating or waiting to be seated at any given time during the 24/7 opening hours is proof that it delivers consistently good food, constantly. Sit on the sidewalk and devour a delicious Dhs10 shawarma while you wait for your table – others do the same.
Despite the number of people vying for staff’s attention, they manage to keep their cool. They aren’t the chattiest, but given how busy it is, their focus is on ensuring orders are taken quickly and accurately and food is served piping hot. And what staff lack in character, the décor makes up for. Quirky and cute Japanese manga-style cartoons and other graffiti in Arabic adorn the walls both inside and out, creating a fun and funky vibe.
Families, couples and groups of friends all come to tuck into manakish, thick and flaky fateer and hummus topped indulgently with warm shawarma meat and pine nuts – all beyond reasonably priced. It’s best for a quick bite rather than a leisurely meal that lingers, though, owing to the frenetic air of organised chaos, but once you’ve discovered Zaroob, we’re sure you’ll love it as much as we do.
The bottom line Cheap Levantine street food eats at this quirky, fun and funky spot.
