If you’re looking for an al fresco brunch, this one at the Taj Dubai is worthy of your consideration. And it’s immediately clear what the main attraction is here – the stunning view of the Burj Khalifa from the rooftop.
Brunch starts with a rather posh picnic basket. You won’t find simple turkey sandwiches here; it’s all cold cuts, ceviche, quinoa, cheese and hummus. Everything is impeccably presented and tastes delicious. It can be a little filling to start, especially, if like us, you go overboard with the bread basket and baguettes.
With buffet, à la carte and barbecue options to choose from, this is a brunch best enjoyed slowly over the afternoon. Barbecue chicken, beef skewers, garlic prawn skewers and grilled fish are all cooked to order, while scallops, short rib mini burgers, steak tartare, crispy sticky beef and salt squid are available à la carte.
You can also help yourself to a choice of sushi, pasta and stews from the buffet, but the results are mixed and the selection isn’t replenished often. You can also find some standard desserts including chocolate fondue, macaroons, jellies and ice cream. But make sure you don’t miss out on the impressive cheese selection.
The choice of drinks is decent, but the mixed beverages don’t really impress, while the service can be slow. It’s also quite expensive when considering the quality, but for an afternoon of lazing in the sun and taking in the view, it does a job. Dhs345 (soft drinks), Dhs445 (house and mixed beverages), Dhs545 (bubbly). Fri 2pm-5pm. Taj Dubai, Burj Khalifa Street, Business Bay, www.treehousedubai.com (050 648 3083050 648 3083).
