City skyline views and an upbeat vibe at this chic brunch
Time Out Dubai staff
When looking for brunch, there are, of course, several factors to consider. Location, cost and food, namely. At Iris Dubai you’ll certainly be impressed with the former, though you might not be so convinced by the other two.
Amid the skyscrapers, and prime views of the city’s centrepiece, the Burj Khalifa, Iris Dubai’s brunch has a distinctly city chic vibe.
High stools, wooden decking and loud music don’t make the terrace the most restauranty of brunch locations, but really, this Friday outing is more about the occasion than the eating.
If you’re looking for acres of live cooking stations and more cheese than even a starving mouse could handle, you’ll be disappointed. However, if decision-making isn’t your forte then this brunch is the one for you.
The starters are the highlight. We love the salad station, jam-packed with fresh and colourful ingredients from beetroot to broccoli, peppers and mozzarella balls, which leaves us feeling relatively healthy, a rarity at a brunch.
There’s also a petite sushi bar and a ceviche table. The latter is served in small glass jars, packed with fresh seafood in a punchy dressing. So far, so virtuous.
Mains are concentrated around a barbecue, which has a nice outdoorsy feel to it. Mini sliders with coleslaw, griddled quesadillas and grilled prawns are all worthy options, albeit not particularly adventurous.
You’ll probably have room for dessert, though this is limited to crêpes, but topped with Nutella and strawberries we’re not complaining.
Where Iris excels is in its mixed drinks. Creative, classy concoctions are served up with a flourish.
There’s an upbeat mood, with pumping music and a DJ, but it’s more a mature vibe with smaller tables rather than large, boisterous groups. Sit back and take in the Dubai skyline while catching up with some friends and you’ll have a great Friday afternoon. Dhs290 (soft drinks), Dhs460 (house beverages), Dhs650 (bubbly). Fri 1pm-5pm. The Oberoi Dubai, Business Bay (056 951 1442).
The Bottom Line Excellent views and vibe, but slightly limited food options.
