From noodles to sushi, funky new eatery Mr Miyagi’s is making waves
Man who catch fly with chopstick accomplish anything,” or so says Mr Miyagi in Karate Kid. Now, we’re not sure about overcoming that feat, but we do know that if you’ve managed to bag yourself a table at the hottest new restaurant in Media City (which goes by the name of the karate master himself) you’re doing pretty well.
Mr Miyagi’s opened on July 21, and since then has been packed out. Set on the ninth floor of the Media One Hotel, the restaurant is housed in what was formerly Crab Tavern.
Serving up a range of interesting Asian food, Mr Miyagi’s’ menu is split into pun-laden sections including Wok Your World (think pad Thai, Singapore noodles et al), Been There Thai’d That (green Thai curry, red Panang curry) and I Like The Way You Roll (maki, nigiri, sashimi).
Prices are relatively reasonable for the area too, with noodles, sushi and curries costing between Dhs39 and Dhs75. There’s also a range of slightly more expensive signature dishes including Peking duck (Dhs165 half). It’s not your average crispy duck though, as you can see (pictured). A plump piece of meat is thickly sliced, and served with plum sauce and mandarin pancakes. It looks delightful.
According to the team behind the idea, “Mr Miyagi’s samurai chef and his team have created a zingy menu of pho-nomenal Vietnamese soups, Japanese small plates and Chinese favourites, all perfect for slurping, sharing and grazing.”
