Less than a month after the hotel made headlines around the world following a fire on New Year’s Eve, The Address Downtown has shown the first real signs that it is getting back on its feet with the reopening of Em Sherif.
The popular Middle Eastern restaurant in the hotel will welcome diners for the first time this year this week, having spent four weeks sprucing themselves up.
Described by Time Out Dubai last year as ‘fantastic for a classic and very glamorous Lebanese experience’, news of the huge leap forward for the property will be warmly received by residents.
Both the gorgeous interior and outdoor terrace area are open, although the valet parking at The Address Downtown lobby remains unavailable; guests are asked to park at Souk Al Bahar or Dubai Mall, both within easy access of the Boulevard outlet.
Further updates from the hotel are not expected, meaning popular venues like Cut by Wolfgang Puck, Calabar, Zeta and Neos remain closed.
Earlier this month, it emerged that an electrical short circuit had caused the fire that engulfed the property as Dubai prepared for its iconic New Year’s Eve firework display. News channels around the world led bulletins with updates on the blaze, while on social media residents rallied to support those displaced by the incident – the hashtag #NeedAnAddress, in which people offered spare beds and rooms, was trending throughout the UAE for 24 hours after the event.
All those caught up in the fire were evacuated safely, with only a handful of minor injuries reported as a result of the fire and smoke.
Speaking in the immediate aftermath of the incident, Emaar Properties, who manage the vast majority of the Downtown Dubai development, insisted they would return the hotel to its former glory. A timeframe for that has not yet been made available.
