Former Rivington Grill space gets two openings, including Nick & Scott’s new restaurant
Almost two years on from the much-lamented closing of Souk Madinat Jumeirah’s popular British eatery Rivington Grill, a brand-new, contemporary European restaurant from chef duo Nick Alvis and Scott Price, has opened in part of the space.
Following the launch of après-ski-style bar and eatery Publique, which opened earlier this year in the lower portions of the multi-storey plot, folly by Nick & Scott is now serving upstairs, offering up the same stunning Madinat views as its predecessor, albeit with revamped interiors and fresh new bars.
Jumping on the ubiquitous “sharing” trend, the menu consists of 24 small plates (plus desserts), all served to the centre of the table, and each dish containing a maximum of four ingredients, designed to show off flavour and technique. Dishes include monk fish cheeks with paprika and salted lemon, smoked clams with lemongrass, Omani shrimp with marjoram and lime gremolata, barbecued pigeon with tarragon succotash and king crab with basil and seaweed, with prices per dish ranging from Dhs45 to Dhs110.
Adjacent to the main restaurant, the Outdoor Terrace & Lounge promises a “secret garden” feel, while folly Rooftop, located above, is pitched as the perfect place for sundowners (mixed drinks will be available for Dhs25, from 5pm to 7pm, Saturday to Wednesday). Two private dining spaces have also been introduced – The Communal Table, on a private terrace, can accommodate up to 12 diners, while The Windtower offers a secluded table for two, with a bespoke drinks and dinner menu tailored to diners’ preferences.
For more casual dining, the Kitchen Bar, where diners can perch for a meal, doubles as the kitchen pass and promises an “immersive” experience (just try not to sneeze on someone else’s sirloin). Open Sun-Thu noon-2.30pm, bar noon-late. Fri-Sat 12.30pm-3.30pm, 7pm-11pm, bar noon-late. Souk Madinat Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim (04 430 8535)
