World’s most expensive burger sold at Dubai charity event
It was all for charity, btw, before the internet starts calling Dubai ridiculous again.
On Sunday Time Out Dubai reported the Eat Pink event was coming to Dubai Mall. We said to look out for some outrageous auctioning for charity eats, and we certainly weren’t disappointed.
The event took place at the Galeries Lafayette, pitting teams of culinary creators against each other, all in the name of breast cancer awareness charity Pink Caravan. All of the dishes were auctioned off to the philanthropic audience, and a total of Dhs108,755 was raised at the end of the day.
The centrepiece of the auction was Pink Caravan ambassador Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani’s creation, a mega-stacked cheese burger with veal bacon, a saffron brioche burger bun and spicy harissa sauce. Sounds pretty awesome, and the auction participants agreed, with the burger raising a world record-breaking Dhs36,700 - $9,992.
“I have been an ambassador of Pink Caravan since the very beginning, and I am extremely honoured to be here today,” said Shaikh Al Thani. “Two years ago, we broke the world record by selling one burger for $7,000, and this year we wanted to top that. Of course, all proceeds will go to breast cancer awareness and free detection at an earlier stage."
The Pink Caravan UAE tour is going on through the week, concluding in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
