A typically cheap’n’cheerful canteen-type eatery, Delhi Darbar is perpetually packed, full of movement and noise and a heady blend of tempting aromas. Without wanting to spark an international incident, it could even have the edge over Karama’s Karachi Darbar. It’s definitely slightly more upmarket, and boy, do the prices reflect this: delicious vegetable dishes such as palak paneer and malai kofta come in at a whacking Dhs11 each, while the mutton kadai is Dhs10. The mutton dishes are a little over-oily but the old favourite, chicken tikka masala (Dhs16) is spot-on. The dal, meanwhile is delicious, chock-full of beans and lentils, including a tiny black variety that pop in your mouth.
