From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2008

Timing is everything when dining at Al Tannour. Arrive after 10pm and the house band plays soothing Arabic music that gradually builds into a lively composition once the belly dancer shimmies her way onto the main stage. Male diners in particular will appreciate her energetic routine.

Al Tannour’s menu offers a wide choice of starters and mains for meat lovers and vegetarians alike. Aside from the à la carte option, diners can also sample a range of dishes from the set menu, which offers excellent value when ordered before 11pm.

The grilled halloumi cheese, mixed with a side order of Arabic salad, is an excellent choice. Those that prefer light carnivorous bites should opt for the grilled chicken wings.

Onto the main courses, and adventurous diners hoping to try more exotic dishes may relish sampling the grilled lamb liver or fried sheep brains, but guests who prefer to stick with conventional cuisine will savour the thyme-encrusted shish kebab and lamb chops.

Both are accompanied with thin, crispy slices of bread covered in tomato puree and salad.
