From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2007
Getting a table at the Madinat branch of The Agency is no easy task. On some evenings, the muted interior is filled to the gills, warm lanterns humming amid the din of Dubai’s sleek crowd clutching fine vintage. Although the primary purpose of The Agency is to appease Dubai’s wine connoisseurs, the appropriately matched menu offers a selection of international tapas, with sushi, European and Lebanese nibbles that keep the medley of clientele happy.
Although compact and prettily presented, the Asian tapas selection suffers – the edamame is criminally under-salted and the soy-glazed tuna is dry. Stick to the European side of things, however, and the wine is effortlessly complemented by Gallic delicacies such as the escargot, rehashed in a mushroom-like consistency and swathed in melted cheese, then curiously, but accurately, matched with soft grainy balls of polenta.
There’s also the classic creamy cheese fondue, accentuated with a rich smoky undercurrent of truffle, most enjoyably inhaled from the comfy balcony cushions, gazing out across palm-fringed Madinat waters.
