From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2008

Once upon a time the Silk Route was virtually the only way for westerners to get to China. That may no longer be the case, but a journey to this impressively consistent restaurant is usually well rewarded.

It’s a particularly good choice for vegetarians; a customer base Dubai has a history of neglecting. Sizzling chunks of tofu come light and subtly flavoured, while there’s plenty of scope for non-carnivores on the extensive list of dim sum, rice and noodle-based dishes.

Unlike some outlets in the city, Silk Route hasn’t gone overboard on the Oriental theme, but the wicker chairs and mats along with the bamboo rattan walls collude to create a pleasing ambience. More authentic are dishes such as the chicken cashew curry, which delivers a kick without being overly brutal.

Portions here are of the gargantuan variety, which means that you will leave with a full stomach, and with the lunch set menu coming in at a rock-bottom price of Dhs25, your wallet is likely to still be pretty stuffed too.
