From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2008

Whoever Harry is, he should hang his head in shame at some of the crimes being committed against culinary good taste at his ‘Place’.

More a slightly down at heel hangout than a dining venue, it doesn’t claim to be a place to chow down in style, but that’s no excuse for the scorched earth approach to cooking burgers and the extremely bland cheese that coats everything from the fajitas to the sarnies.

Standards are a little higher in the pizza and pasta department, but even here the grub’s main purpose is to serve as a stomach filler for those too ensconced in the overstuffed sofas to seek something less mediocre elsewhere.

Proficiently rendered soft rock hits from the 80s and 90s by a tolerable covers band add to a kitsch factor already pumped up by a games area decorated with prints of dogs playing sport, and the bar is actually fairly convivial if you take it on its own terms. It’s a shame then that the food whiffs up the atmosphere in such an alarming fashion.

Harry’s Place, Renaissance Hotel, Deira (04 262 5555). Open Sun-Wed 12 noon-2am, Thu 12 noon-3am, Fri 6pm-2am, Sat 12 noon-2am. All major credit cards accepted. Average price of a meal for two with a glass of house wine Dhs100-200.

Could have been better if there was better entertainment. It was good and now it's turning out to be a boring hang out. There are better places now open in the heart of the city Dubai.
