The menu, offering ‘lunchtime double acts’, is described as ‘fast, filling and great value for money’. Six combinations of starter and main course named after Hollywood couples are on offer and you also have the choice of an accompanying Greek, Caesar or mixed salad and then a dessert or coffee. We chose to mix and match the ‘Brad and Jennifer’ and ‘Laurel and Hardy’ combinations. My vegetable quesadillas with sour cream, penne chicken broccoli pasta and Caesar salad were all tasty. The tomato soup, cheese burger and mixed salad were also enjoyed. Presentation was surprising, with all three items arriving on the same large platter at the same time.
The Planet is much quieter at lunchtime than in the evenings, however on the day that we visited there was a chaotic rush on. The service was slow, inattentive and very confused. After a long wait our order was taken. After another long interval two plates of somebody else’s food were brought to us three times by three different waiters before we convinced them that it wasn’t ours. Then we saw it being delivered to its rightful owner, no doubt a lot colder than it had been ten minutes earlier. We did receive profuse apologies from our smiling waiter. This deal is not ‘fast’ as promised but it is filling and good value. It is worth bearing in mind that your drinks will probably cost you as much as your meal.
