Bento-Ya

Sushi specialist on Sheikh Zayed Road Reviews

From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2008

In a city choking on five-stardom, Bento-Ya’s uninspiring decor is oddly endearing. With an illustrated ‘Know Your Sushi’ wall chart and ‘Fishes Of The UAE’ poster, plus a healthy clientele of Japanese diners, Bento-Ya is about as close as you’re going to get to an authentic, no-frills sushi joint around here.

The maki platter is a good-value selection of fresh and tasty tuna, salmon, crabstick and cucumber rolls, although the presentation is a bit messy. The yakiniku bento box, meanwhile, is excellent. It includes a pile of tender pan-fried beef in a gingery teriyaki sauce, accompanied by rice, pickled aubergine, sweet egg omelette and deep-fried fish.

Steer clear of the shake ikura don – grilled salmon with salmon roe, radish and rice, which displays a near complete disregard for taste buds and is overwhelmingly fishy and salty. Finish your meal with green tea ice-cream – little else is available – a refreshing finish to a well-priced meal.

bento-ya used to be a great restaurant but seems to have slipped badly. Even the freshness of food has suffered baly. May be its a temporary thing. Who knows.

By far one of the best and most authentic sushi restaurants in the UAE. Their menu is filled with never heard or seen before authentic japanese dishes. Their Sashimi is fresh and mouth watering. I'm a sushi and food fanatic and could not care less for the decor to be honest. The decor is simple and feels like you're in little restaurant in Japan. At Bento-Ya, it's all about the food for me. I've tried Zuma, So Cho, Benihana and Wasabi and Bento-Ya is the best one far without putting a whole in your pocket. Well priced, good service, Grade "A" fish and a good menu.

A little japanese resturant hiding on Sheikh Zayed Road; the size and the decor of the place makes you feel you are in an authentic japanese resturant. The best Maki in Town i dont recommend you venture into chicken or beef. The eel with rice is the best dish they have. If you are a big fan of Maki this place offers the best and the most "cost efficient" in town! enjoy!

We ordered a sushi platter, and now feel sick because of it. Also had a not very authentic nebanyaki udon. The grilled salt makrel bento. was decent, although the fish lacked flavor.

Really good quality and good value sahimi. The sushi rice is a bit overcooked so best to go for the sashimi which is perfectly cut. Also their tick Udon noodles are good as is the grilled mackerel and the Unagi (eel) . A traditional japanese resaurant.
