Sherlock Holmes

No chic Sherlock Holmes theme pub with simple grub Reviews

No guesses where this pub finds its inspiration, but you might be surprised by the added charm and modernity with which it reinterprets its traditional British décor and culture with all the slickness you’d expect from Dubai. So while Sherlock Holmes aspires to be the sort of drinking den where you’d seek refuge on a drizzly London afternoon, don’t expect sticky carpets, wooden fireplaces, corner tellies, dart boards or pub games. All of the above are replaced with their more modern cousins: plasma TVs, computerised arcade games, flashy gas fires and the like. And the room is bereft of stale beer and cigarette smells. Which could be a good or bad thing, depending on how homesick you are.

For sure, the all-day English breakfast is very English – proper smoky pork bacon and sausages and heart-stopping fried bread are accompanied by Heinz tomato ketchup making the beans the only true absentee; they are simply not Heinz. The varied menu also affords healthier sandwich and salad options, (the very ’80s prawn and avocado combo hits the spot commendably), as well as burgers and shepherd’s pie. Good views of the Dubai Museum and attentive service makes the Sherlock Holmes an elementary place to enjoy a pint and pleasant pub grub.

I like this place, and have been back several times. The menu offer varied but staple fare, my favourite is the chicken curry. Prices are fair given this is Dubai although the 20% Happy Hour discount is a bit mean.
The location is great for a stroll along the river, and to the old souk.
