Japengo

Japengo will swipe Dhs46 from your wallet in exchange for a plate of seafood and vegetables in batter. It seems a high price to pay for the frankly unspectacular tempura moriawase, which features batter-slapped prawns, hammour, mushroom, peppers and aubergine, with a side smidgen of shredded ginger and radish.
Far better value, but still on the pricey side, is the nasi goreng istimewa. The dome of soy-soaked fried rice with smithereens of carrot and spring onion rests under a fried egg sunny side up, next to a deep-fried crispy chicken leg and a skewer of tender chicken pieces in a rich, dark sauce.
Since most Japengo’s are in shopping malls, you might baulk at the price.
