Saravana Bhavan

Indian vegetarian fast food Karama Reviews

From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2008

Despite its humble atmosphere, Saravana Bhavan is actually an international Indian vegetarian fast food chain that skillfully avoids McBlandness, with grateful Indian expats around the globe – from Malaysia to New York and beyond – enjoying the range of ‘tiffins and light meals’ on offer.

Order yourself some bargain bhajis and one of the filling and delicious dosas from the amiable waiter, and wash them down with fresh juices. The paneer butter masala is perfect, and really frugal types can’t go wrong with the unlimited thali – you can stuff yourself with roti, dahl, rice and sambar for a piffling Dhs10.

Well I do not think South Indian food is bland (thats just being racist there!!).Their dosas, puris and pongal are just amazing.Ok not too dressy and artistic like some italian rests, but hey at least they are are not wannabes.
I certainly do not like the crowdiness and their loud tamil music, so I do enjoy their take aways once in a while.

First of all, its not a punjabi cafe as it has been described in another article ! It's a south indian chain that began in Chennai (formerly Madras).

I personally find the sambar (a gravy served with the rice cakes [idlis] and pancakes [dosas] and other south indian dishes)to be terribly bland. The rest of the dishes are just as awful. However it's cheap and hence the high VFM rating.
