Nezesaussi - Restaurant Award Highly Commended

Sports-friendly bar food near Burj Dubai Reviews

From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2008

Inside this bright, frenetically rugby-fuelled place, matches blare, the central bar bustles and all is set for the next big game. In the corner, the open plan kitchen sizzles purposefully. Nezesaussi cater for sport widows too, serving the pretty outdoor courtyard area, which is where we urge anyone with an aversion to blaring football or rugby commentaries to head for, as well as any guilty smokers (the bar is smoke free).

As it’s primarily a sports bar, the menu uses pained sporting analogies to describe the food, with dishes just right for an afternoon session watching the big screen. Mains consist of such belly-busters as a gigantic chicken and champagne pie or a lamb chops dish, both of which are generously portioned, adequately flavoured and functional.

Some desserts can be a little over sweet, but you probably won’t have room anyway. Nevertheless, Nezesaussi will win you over with its buzzing atmosphere, friendly service and good food. Who cares if the name sounds like an inebriated Glaswegian’s sneeze? It’s just the job if you’re after a refill during the big match.

  • Would you go back to this restaurant? No

Probably the only sports bar in the Burj Dubai area and among a handful that properly adhere to the theme in Dubai. The place is therefore full for big matches. Unfortunately, the management and staff are quick to show you how aware of that they are. The head manager is perhaps the most uncultivated disrespectful individual i have come across since i came to Dubai 2 years ago. I was spoken down to repeatedly when i tried asking different waiters if my friends and i could put two tables together. Eventually i decided to speak to the manager about the treatment i was getting, but to my surprise, he said: "that's the policy. If you don't like it, leave!". Shocked, i tried to figure out how he thought it appropriate to speak in such a tone but he looked away and rolled his eyes!
Can't begin to explain how offended my friends and i were. Would we go back to this restaurant? Never!
