Coconut Grove
Mid-priced Indian restaurant in Satwa 10 Reviews
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2008
On a good night it’s one of the best budget joints in town, with fine southern Indian and Sri Lankan cuisine matched by sterling service. Catch it when it’s off its game, however, and you’ll run into a different beast entirely – the snarling waiters and average food making for a relentlessly unpleasant dining experience.
Nevertheless, with reliable attributes such as a line in cheap bottled beer and some of the best views in Dubai counteracting its schizophrenic tendencies, the restaurant remains well worth the risk.
Stand-outs include a tikka masala laden with juicy chunks of hammour and a tangy aubergine dish that goes by the tounge-twisting moniker of kathrikai kara kozhambu. Staples such as naans and pilau rice come enormously proportioned, ensuring appetites are suitably sated.
So while its unpredictability counts against it, there remain plenty of reasons to give this lottery of a restaurant a spin.
