Baithal Ravi Restaurant
Can this restaurant match up to the Satwa favourite of the same name? 2 Reviews
Passionate devotees and sworn disciples of Ravi’s in Satwa, look away now. The famous Pakistani restaurant and Dubai institution has a rival trading under (almost) the same name, and it’s every bit as good – perhaps even better.
Any copyright issues might have been avoided by the addition of the word ‘Baithal’, but this Bur Dubai restaurant offers exactly the same line in superb sub-continental food. That’s not to say it’s identical, however, as the Peshwari chicken kadai is a unique blend of sauce and spices surrounding tender pieces of chicken in a balti-style steel bowl that’s quite unlike anything we’ve had at the other Ravi’s. You might have to pick the meat from the bones, but it goes staggeringly well with the excellent egg biryani, which is stacked with hard-boiled treats among the fragrant grains of rice.
As a side dish, we recommend the aloo palak, which combines soft potato and spinach in a moodily rich sauce full of dark delight. Another thing that sets this place apart from its Satwa counterpart is the bread – the garlic naan here is thicker and more cushiony, yet still ideal for soaking up your main course. But just like the other Ravi’s – and indeed most independent Pakistani restaurants in the city – this place won’t soak up the bread in your wallet.
