From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011

Nestled in a corner of the gloomy, ghetto-like complex that is International City, this Afghani eatery used to be a honeypot for local residents looking for cheap and tasty eats. Unfortunately, since the restaurant changed hands and became Bilal Afghani from Afghan Cuisine, the once high standards have slipped to lows. The room itself is small, clean and inoffensive, but there’s been no effort made with the decor, and the staff, along with the one or two customers you’ll find in here, sprawl out across the chairs watching whatever’s on the wall-mounted telly.

Still, if it’s quantity you’re after, you can’t argue with the prices – Dhs18-20 for a traditional Afghani pulao, a greasy rice, served with either shami kebab (lamb, allegedly) or chicken boti (like shish taouk, minus any flavour), all of which is served tepidly re-heated, but in gargantuan portions. The highlight of the meal is the lentil appetiser, that's somewhere between an Indian dhal and Arabic lentil soup, and freshly-made ‘spacial’ bread. There is nothing inter-galactic about it but it does come garnished with poppy and sesame seeds. The verdict? Try it if you must, but there are better places around town.

I have to say this restaurant is perfect in every way except the decoration which needs some renewals and the tables as well.Other than that the waiters are super friendly, the management is engaged and fast reactors. I would say it is the best restaurant in international city.

After the renovation and change of ownership, the new Afghan Cuisine in International City is a disappointment compared to its predecessor!

There are no more succulent, mouth watering lamb chops or any of those surprisingly delightful mantu's on the menu!

Where can i go now to get some good Afghani Food?

Sniff sniff!!! The owner with a 'californian drawl' has sold Afghan Cuisine. I am saddened to see the 'CLOSED - Under Renovation' sign on the doors! Im gonna miss the Chopan Kababs and Mantu!

I hope the new restaurant can live up to his predecessor...

First of all would like to thank the owners of this awesome restaurant for their hospitality, service and commitment. I invited my colleagues for lunch party, after pre-arranging with the owners. They committed to provide us with nice & tasty Afghani traditional dishes with good enough quantity which will surely be a memorable experience! And trust me guys, it was definitely a memorable experience. For most of my colleagues who belonged to different nationalities this was the first experience of having Afghani food to which they were reluctant in the beginning but after they had this food they didn't stop talking about it and will remember for a long time. Thanks to every member of AFGHAN CUISINE Restaurant. Keep it up guys! May Allah(swt) bless you with more success & prosperity!

I do take aways or home delivery twice a week. The food, as I would describe is as 'wholesome' and gives a feeling of 'home cooked'. The mantu (Dumplings) is quite refreshing and builds one's appetite for the main course! The grills are very very tender and juicy. I especially love the lamb!!! The rice on its own is yummy. Simply mouth watering...

And after a very satisfying meal, try their black tea!

hmmm... i think im gonna order there tonight...

Brilliant review, thanks for showing us more of the ' real side of dubai'. The restaurant is cheap, and your description was very encouraging. Plus it's not located in Madinat Jumeirah! wow. lol Cant wait to check it out and will post again afterwards.

The cost is excellent.......I would recommend this place for anyone ....just sit back and enjoy a homecooked meal. From my experience all their food is freshly made on site and is done with in minutes of your request...so ..really worth trying them out.

My boyfriend and I loved this restaurant. The owner is super friendly and the food is unreal! Thinking about the mantu makes my mouth water. All food is homemade and fresh which we very much appreciate. We read the Time Out Dubai review then drove a distance to get there with high hopes...we were not disappointed! We are big food lovers and have eaten at many places in Dubai from high end hotels to down to earth restaurants/cafes. We without a doubt go back here...probably sooner rather than later! I'm extremely impressed...this is the first time I have found a restaurant worthy of taking the time to write a review.
