From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011

Imagine a cold, rainy day, pop on a pair of socks and a cardie and indulge in comfort food in the extreme at this German eatery. Definitely not one for fine diners, the atmosphere is one of a cosy, rather smoky, dimly-lit pub. Snuggle down in one of the booths and stuff yourself with chunky, heart-warming (if slightly stodgy) grub, washed down with a glass of German brew. The selection of Teutonic beverages is disappointingly sparse, given the restaurant’s title, but the food menu is choc-a-block with schnitzels, sauerkrauts and bratwursts. Kick off with a hefty shareable portion of deep-fried camembert with cranberries before tucking into the lethal-looking Brauhaus platter – a selection of bratwurst on a sword which brings a whole new dimension to ‘sausage on a stick’.

Accompanied by pleasantly tart sauerkraut and roast potatoes with bacon, we challenge you to finish it alone. The pork fillet in a mushroom sauce served with cheese spaetzle (that’s gnocchi, German style) is tender, tasty and colossal. In fact, to say the portions are substantial would be like saying the Burj Khalifa is ‘quite tall’, and you’ll be in much need of a snooze after polishing this lot off. Conveniently, the service can be slow, so there’s ample opportunity to nod off while waiting for the bill.

Go every few weeks. Great beers. Good stodgy food, particularly pork knuckle. Think back drop of nonstop EuroPop tad annoying. A good fun bar/rest.

Just order a pork shank if you want to eat a kilo of succulent meat with crispy skin. :)

Came here on th 26th and had a better expeience this time. Salmon, mix grill, chicken and sausage sword were ordered for the 4 of us. The meat dishes are usually dry with lack of any juice in them. Also I feel the prices are a little high for the quality.

Tad dissapoinred last night. We had ordered Mix grill, Royal hammour and BBQ baby ribs. The ribs were burnt in parts and dry and to make it worse there was not much meat remainig on it. Fork and knife had to be left by the side as you could only eat it with you hands. I pointed it out to the manager. The chef insisted that its to be eaten with hands but as I said there wasn't much to have and for the price you get something altogether different at other establishments. Though he didn't agree that there was anything greatly wrong with the ribs, he said I can order anything else I want, which I declined. To be fair, the other dishes were good but I just wish he had just admitted that the ribs were just not right. This was my 3rd visit to this place and don't intend to let this stop me from coming here again.
