If you're after a bit of a dance and sing-along in between your hummus and moussaka, then the Greek Taverna at the Carlton Tower Hotel could be just your thing. We're not entirely sure what takes the centre stage here as the staff can seem a little distracted by the ridiculously loud karaoke and the mad dance competitions so be warned, the service can be on the erratic side. The food on the other hand provides some, if not a lot of lift, it's just a case of having to pray for its arrival. When it comes, the grilled meats are succulent, the shrimps juicy, the salads nicely herbed and the calamari generous and dare we say, even scrumptious.

But take your eye off the food for one minute and there's more warning signs for anyone expecting a bona fide meal at a serious restaurant. This is far from it, you'll know by the decor; the sports memorabilia, '80s disco and the wacky furniture and lighting. So not strict Greek, in fact with the inviting Sri Lankan buffet also on offer, we're not sure what exactly it is, but if you are after something merry, open to a bit of curry with your calamari and aren't too fussed by the loud music and singing waitresses, then you may just enjoy the bizarre Greek Taverna.
