Characterised by twee interior decor (a version of shabby-chic with enough frills to make Little Bo Peep look macho), the aesthetics of Shakespeare & Co certainly inspire a reasonable amount of curiosity about what to expect from the kitchen. We couldn't be happier, speedy staff produce extremely tasty, fuss-free dishes in good time. The calamari starter is perfectly tender and astonishingly un-greasy – an instant hit. Served in a bowl-shaped parmesan crisp, a cherry tomato and mozzarella salad mingles with basil pesto sauce to equally stunning effect. An eye-poppingly tangy quinoa and roasted vegetable salad will remind you that healthy food needn’t taste like cardboard. Although it may be a little pricey for an everyday lunch, if you're in the mood for a treat, Shakespeare’s well and truly hits the spot.
