Snuggled in the bosom of the imposing Grand Hyatt Dubai, Andiamo! is one of eight restaurants in the hotel’s food line-up. It’s a sizeable venue, catering to the Grand Hyatt’s captive audience of tourists and, while the décor is fairly bland, it’s mercifully lacking Italian flags, checked tablecloths and other Disneyland-style tat that seems to be compulsory in so many of Dubai’s themed eateries. The menu, however, is a step up from your usual bolognese-inspired fare. Those hunting for staples such as ragu will be disappointed; instead, you’ll find unusual ingredients to complement the Italian theme (goat’s cheese ravioli with pumpkin was a particular highlight). Many of the mains are on the pricey side, with interesting concoctions of rabbit, veal and sea bass all gracing the menu. Yet, disappointingly, the food itself failed to wow: it was nice enough, but ultimately it lacked that little something promised by the enticing menu. Hotel guests are well catered for, although we doubt this will become a destination venue for residents, especially with so many other Italian eateries clamouring for your dirhams.
