From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011

Sandwiched between the Holiday Inn and Ibis Hotel in Al Barsha, this cosy restaurant is a local haunt with basic decor but friendly service. Adorned with a bizarre Turkish Parthenon style backdrop, a kebab counter and a simple no frills table and chairs, the layout is reflected in the reasonably priced menu. Get the classic options such as baba ganoush and hummus with free spongy Turkish bread plus a range of traditional home-cooked dishes like thin Turkish bread covered with meat and herbs, raw meatballs, baklava and shepherd’s salad all start from as little as Dhs12. Though the prices are low, the quality is high and ingredients are fresh and there’s attention to detail in the nicely presented kebabs. A perfect spot for a non-pretentions leisurely meal or quick stop before you hit the indoor ski slopes at Mall of the Emirates.

The best Turkish food we had in Dubai so far. Except the shawarma (much better in Istanbul) all the food we had (lentil soup, lamb shish kebab, bulghur pilaf, ayran) was really really good. Lamb shish kebab was amazing, I was really surprised of its tenderness and juicyness. And the prices are really really good, totally worth its value. Will be definitely going back again.

We had lunch in Harput last week. The food was excellent!
From previous comments talking about a plain decor, I thought it'll be bad. But the decor adds to the authenticity. It's simple and clean. Don't change a thing.
The stuff were very friendly and prompt.
Thank you, Harput! We'll come back soon in sha' Allah!

Went for dinner there yesterday and fully agree with Gokhan and all the others that it is as close as it gets to authentic Turkish cuisine in Dubai!! Also agree that the minor glitches (and plain decor) only add to it's authenticity! Bravo Harput, we'll be back soon!

nice food, but location and atmosphere was a bit poor. You get a good value for your money, deserts were fresh

THE REAL DEAL!!!

The first time in Dubai I have had great food without any fuss. If you are hungry, if you enjoy Turkish kebabs and if you are looking for an authentic taste...look no further!

This is what Turkish food is about and this is exactly what you will find in the streets of Turkey. The little glitches descdribed by the author of the review is just part of the authenticite and can only be appreciated by those who have visited real corner shops/restaurants in Turkey. The conversation, the jokes, the tea and a witty waiter, like Abdullah, with whom you can joke and have a lough.

I was looking for a place like this in Dubai for such a long time and I finaly found the real deal. Value for money is an understatement! From this day onwards Harput will be my regular kebab house and I will visit at least once a week.

I'm not turkish - but I know what I like - and this place, I like. Decor is most importantly clean, open kitchen = you got the balls to show off where the work is done = you rate your own level of cleanliness and so they should - it's clean. Seating is relaxed, the outdoor al fresco dining - beautiful. Service (Abdullah) was very friendly greated me like an old friend and waited on us like we were family - very pleasant - time for food preparation was a lazy mediterranean style, but not annoyingly so. Food *Iskender kebab* very tasty, hearty tomato and lamb schwarma on oil soaked bread and siliky yoghurt - that's probably a meal you want to eat before you go off to war or be hung - it's that good - and amazingly still light on the pallette. ambience - al fresco is my thing - so i dig. value, it's very reasonable. GLAD timeout showed me the way.

I go to Harput on a regular basis, and have found the food consistently of high quality, the service friendly and the atmosphere quite authentic. For me, the glitches add to the experience of eating there. If you want perfection, then you will have to splash out the big bucks elsewhere.

A great little gem of a restaurant for great Turkish food!

I am very surprised to read this review of Harput on Time Out. As a Turkish expat in Dubai I have eaten at most of the Turkish restaurants in town from time to time. Harput is the only one of them I would not visit again in a rush. The food is below average and the service and cleanliness leaves a lot to desire for. It is interesting this review ends positively despite the fact that you found a foreign object in your food and was less then happy with the service. To answer your opening question; I would personally nominate Harput for the worst Turkish restaurant in Dubai, certainly not the best.

I couldn't agree more with Daisy about the little glitches with the place.

But being from Turkey, I must say that some of Harput's kebabs, pides and baklavas are way better then even some top notch restaurants in Turkey. They do the doner Kebap in the turkish style, not like shawarma. And Iskender kebap is served with proper yoghurt, hot sizzling butter and tomato sauce and pide dressing, which is what makes it authentic Iskender.

It's a plus that they also have some traditional Turkish delicatessen such as Imambayildi, Incik Kebabi, and meals with gravy.

I would suggest this restaurant to anyone who wants to try proper Turkish food.
