Johnny Carino’s
Italian-American themed restaurant in Dubai Festival City 6 Reviews
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011
Tucked away in a corner of Festival Centre, it’s easy to just ignore good Johnny and walk over to one of the fine Marina Promenade restaurants, but you’ll be missing out on a sumptuous meal. Okay, it’s no five-star dining experience, but it has a rather charming décor that’s faux-rustic (but not annoyingly so) with walls filled with photographs and curios all over. You can sit outside for the alfresco feel, but the IKEA flags and views of the car park don’t exactly inspire, so sit in the booths inside. Appetisers are generous, and creations like the baked stuffed mushrooms are inspiring – three cheeses, spinach and onion all in the fungi, doused in a delicious lemon basil cream sauce – but try to leave room for the mains. We tried the spicy Venetian chicken with mushrooms, which was delicately spiced with cayenne pepper and came with a creamy alfredo sauce. Definitely one worth returning for. Service on the whole was friendly but there was a motivational staff meeting on, involving most of the servers at the time, who were told to ‘pay attention to the customers’. There we sat, with our hands politely up, case in point, and it took a good few minutes before we were attended to. We’ll still be returning though. You should too.
