From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011
Tony Roma’s is American fare, served in large portions, swimming in grease, and tries to channel Americana in the middle of a mall. The Ibn Battuta mall outlet has a slightly tired air to its leather banquettes and dog-eared menus. Starters are voluminous – think buffalo chicken bites, onion rings and plenty more deep-fried concoctions. Mains stick to steaks, burgers and fried fish, with a small nod to salads, and all come with a choice of two side dishes. There are plenty of sharing options and meal deals – you can mix and match between various surf n’ turf options to satisfy your inner glutton quite easily. Steaks come in various weights, cooked to order and are satisfyingly chunky for a restaurant of this standard, although the garlic green beans were tasteless and undercooked. Perhaps it’s best to avoid all attempts at healthy eating here. No American restaurant would be complete without gluttonous deserts – from cheesecake to brownies and ice cream, all of which, like the mains, don’t come only in large thankfully.
