Royal Orchid
Thai favourites and other Asian dishes in Dubai Festival City 10 Reviews
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011
You can’t go wrong here. It’s all very refreshing, which is surprising considering it’s technically part of a mall…but this is how it should be done. From its location by the Dubai Festival promenade, great outdoor seating booths complete with flowing fabrics and comfortable cushions, right down to the friendly service, variety on offer and the food that comes with subtle flavour twists. Take the chicken satay for example – fairly simple and nothing to write home about you’d think, but what sets it apart from countless uninspiring variations we’ve had is the peanut sauce dip that comes with a distinct Thai chilli taste that’s unlike we’ve eaten outside Bangkok, and complements the perfectly cooked chicken well.
The mains didn’t disappoint either – the Singapore chilli crab was meaty, succulent and definitely hit the spot. We weren’t sure if we’d order it as it costs Dhs76, which seemed a bit steep, but not when our server said it was good enough for two to eat comfortably, and she was right. We’d recommend foregoing the usual jasmine rice and ordering one of the several fried rice options available, as even our humble egg and vegetable option satisfied. Royal Orchid is definitely worth your Thai(me).
