Whoever said vegetarian food is boring clearly hasn’t visited Kamat. Located in Bur Dubai, the veggie-only place is packed most weekends, and weeknights too, which is always a good sign. As far as ambience and decor goes, it’s not dining at its finest, but it’s got a cheery vibe to it. Though bustling, you usually don’t have to wait too long for a table and the menu has a great deal of variety so you can easily find dishes you’ve never tried before.
The cauliflower manchurian, for example, is not too greasy and delicious, though we were slightly disappointed by the pudina paneer tikka as the minty cottage cheese chunks had a rather weak flavour. The vegetable pilau gets top marks; fragrant and soft, while from the curries vegetable lahori and dhingri paneer mutter, it’s the latter that stands out with its combination of mushrooms, paneer and peas in the right blend of spices. Unfortunately, the rotis are tough and chewy and desserts such as the ras malai and kulfi falooda are just about average at best. Still, when it comes to portions and value for money, Kamat is a clear winner.
