You can’t really go wrong with Noodle House. The frenetic setting is ideal for a catch-up with friends, a family outing or even a laidback date. Bright uplighting, constant background clatter from the open kitchen and hectic service staff mean there’s a buzz about the place, even though the interior is extremely basic. Express service (think: scribbles on your paper placemat; diners ticking boxes on a pad with a big curly biro) and only slightly more comfortable wooden benches than those at Wagamama ensure that you stay no longer than an hour or two. (Although the great, unfussy food may mean you order another round).
Chicken dumplings arrive just the right side of fried, while the teriyaki beef is deliciously sweet, the roast duck and pancakes are instantly devourable (though at times a touch fatty and stringy) and the Pad Thai is a strong rendition of the benchmark dish. Wash this down with one of their inventive cocktails (yes, the chain is licensed, somewhat surprisingly): we recommend the unpronounceable ‘mojasia’ from Asia, or take advantage of the three-for-two hops deal. If it’s fast, tasty Asian food on a budget you’re after, Noodle Houses is your best bet in Dubai. The 20-minute wait for a table every weekend is proof that most of the city’s diners know that too.
