From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011

In a city bloated with high-end Japanese restaurants, it’s refreshing to find something a little more low-key and understated. Tucked away in JBR, Haru’s menu doesn’t surprise, nor particularly excite, though this isn’t the intention – the restaurant is geared to serving functional and affordable Japanese food. On the whole, it does this pretty well. The sushi and sashimi selections proved fresh and competently prepared. However, the venue is as soulless as they come and despite the best efforts of the staff, eating in is a pretty depressing experience. We recommend ordering delivery.

I have to say, I disagree with the Time Out review and can only hope that they just caught the place on a really bad day... although admittedly, there should never be any bad days in a restaurant.

Having eaten there several times before, I have always been more than happy with the experience - the food was spot-on, the service was attentive and well, it certainly wasn't Ikea!

It isn't a romantic place, but nice if you like a quiet, casual meal with some decent Japanese food. It's also not outdoor, as the review suggests.

one of my favorite Japanese restaurant .. decent food with a reasonable price
