Just moved to Tecom from Bahrain , visited Nelsons twice now and on both occassions found the staff unaware of any promotion , unable to adjust a food order that is slightly different from menu , poor training and even poorer responce from manager when he was callled .

We arrived around 7:30pm for the happy hour, which was only 25% off beverages, rather than the 2-for-1 or 50% off (which is what I expect a happy hour to be..). The 4 drink coupons for ladies starting at 8pm is great though.

The atmosphere really exceeded expectations, much better than a standard pub, and they pull in good crowd in for a Tuesday - nothing too busy or uncomfortable though.

The food was really disappointing however. I know pub food is somewhat safe and straightforward regardless, but this was food was painfully bland and boring. We had the calamari (only 5 pieces) served with chips, plus the quesadillas. The drinks are good, but I do NOT recommend eating here!

First friday of the month, my family and I had the Friday Brunch in Media Rotana. Prior to that, I called up Media Rotana to double check the price. I was informed by the operator that the price for the friday brunch is AED 199 with unlimited drinks. She also informed that the kids below 7 years old are free and 7 years old and above will be charged half of the price.

When we are about to pay, my 7-year old kid was charged in full. I asked the waiter and we we're told that as per their manager, they require passport copy of kid of my kid to prove that he is 7 years old. I was upset coz who the hell is bringing passport while dining.

I told him that we dont have the copy of the passport and then the waiter told us that he will check again with their manager. When the waiter came back, he pologized and said "I am sorry Sir, my manager told me that 7 years old and above needs to pay in full while those kids below 7 will pay half of the price!.

I was really upset, I asked the waiter if I can see the manager; but the waiter told us that the manager is in the Food & beverage office and he was busy.

I did not argue for more coz my wife told me not to. But hey, AED 199 and my kid is only eating one piece of cake.

The staff does not have the knowledge of the promotion they are offering.

The food is not that impressive but, alcoholic beverages were seemed OK.

It was so frustrating. Rotana is having good reputation. I dine most of the time in Rotana outlets only. But Media Rotana is the poorest Rotana.

No wonder, at 1:30 p.m. they have only 3 tables occupied. The restaurant is totally dead.

What can I say. Friends, please learn from our experiences!

Experience when the Manager (Alan) Lied to Me

Wanted to make sure I posted my experience at Nelson's yesterday for brunch. I arrived with my wife and upon entering I asked for one brunch with alcohol and one without. I was told by Alan that there was only one option, with alcohol. I pointed out that last year I came and there was an option for no alcohol at a lower price.. Alan proceeded to tell me that it may have been an old policy but right now there is only the one option. He went on to say that in March, they were resetting their brunch prices and a non-alcoholic option would be available. I was not pleased but proceeded to pay for two at 169. Nothing would have come about this issue except that one of our party came late. When he sat down I asked what the yellow band (mine was gold) was for and he said "no alcohol" for 100. Obviously I was angry so I went back to the front with my friend to confront him. When I told him, "You lied to me!", he came back with a lame excuse of, "I was looking for you to adjust your charge.". This obviously was another lie because about 30 mins earlier, Alan came to our table to help handle another issue so he knew exactly where I was. Then he started to take out some paper and said something like , "I thought you were with some other party...". I just said I didn't want him to try to cover his lie up anymore and just give me the difference, which he did.

You have to be concerned with an establishment where the Manger would be so willing to lie to a customer. What type of example is he setting for his employees. If they see that he is willing to lie, what should stop them from doing them same?

VERY Disappointed.
