Tasty pan-Asian food that doesn’t cost the earth 10 Reviews

Mall food tends to be hit and miss, but Soy’s a step up from your average food-court frightener. Attached to Ibn Battuta mall, it sits in a charming courtyard with a small alfresco section. The food’s not going to knock your socks off with inventiveness but it does simple, popular pan-Asian dishes well, and you’ll still have money to spend in the mall afterwards. There are either Chef’s recommendations, like kung pao chicken for mains, or choose from a list of meats, fish or veggies and pick a sauce to have it cooked in. Although several dishes come with spice warnings (like the starter of tom yum soup) Soy tends to err on the side of caution, so such warnings can be taken with a pinch of salt.

Me and my friends decided to go to Soy on a Thursday evening, it was busy, but that was fine for us, they asked us to wait for 30 minutes but then we noticed there are empty tables inside, so I asked the lady and she said they are already taken. We finally sat down, and it took the waiter 25 minutes to come and see us regarding our order, we ordered the drinks and then I decided to change my drink and the waiter made a face and said but your drink has already been ordered and I asked but could you kindly change it and he kissed his teeth and walked away, drinks came after 15 minutes and then we ordered 4 starters 2 of them came straight away and then 10 minutes later another one came and then 25 minutes later a soup came, then we asked cane we order the mains and our same waiter said “do you still want to order your mains as there is a 45 to 1 hour wait” and I was like “yes we would like to order” and then he told me again but you will be waiting for a while, so I said we are ok to wait, then I asked to speak to the manager as the front desk lady was very rude to my husband and our waiter said the manager is very busy he won’t come, I said you haven’t asked him, and he walked away, we didn’t see any manager and all the staff were very rude and does not know the meaning of customer service, they all need training, its really a shame as we all really enjoyed the food. Our dinner came out with in 15 to 20 minutes and we asked for dessert menus and they never came so we paid for what we had and left.

Soy is such a contradiction: the restaurant itself is bright, comfortable and the service is attentive. Their food, on the other hand, is horrendous. Everything, including "stir-fried" dishes, is deep-fried and smothered in bland starchy sauce. Overpriced food-court food is the right name for their sad fare.

I ordered take out from them today and I was sooooo disappointed in everything!

First of all, the order was an hour and a half late. So I called the restaurant 5 times before anyone bothered to answer me.

Then finally when the driver came, i asked him why he was late and he just mumbled something and never gave me a clear answer.

Then when I started eating, half way through, I was chewing and i felt something hard. I pulled it out of my mouth and it was a STAPLE! Like from a STAPLER! What was a stapler or a USED staple doing in the kitchen!?!?!?

I was so shocked I didnt even yell at them on the phone. Instead, I wrote a post on my blog and I am writing here. I hope they get their act together because that could have been really dangerous!

This is the worst restaurant in Dubai for sure. My wife and me always eat out but this one... Food is full of msg (monosodium glutamide) and a corn starch... Value for the money 0. We spend over 200 dhs and to be honest it's not worth 3o dhs. Soooooooo sad.

Food is definitely good, however, service standards are terrible and disappointing. They are nowhere when compared with their SOY restaurant in JBR. Way to go, but for me, it has been absolute waste of money and would NEVER go back.Thumbs down.

Their previous decor was sooooooo much better...have no idea why they've made it so drab & uninspiring.

Their food is definitely better than their interiors!
Tried the Hakka noodles,Prawns,Wok-fried vegetables in hot garlic sauce............yummy yum!!

But make sure u tell them 2 make it hot,if u like it that way, otherwise its quite bland...

& they do a good Friday brunch 2!!
