‘Dramatic’ would be the best way to describe this eye-catching steakhouse. Exposed brick walls frame the two-storey space, furnished in dark wood and leather and punctuated by flashes of flame from the open kitchen. The other major plus point here is the staff: professional and well-trained, yet unfailingly friendly. The menu features some interesting flourishes, with unusual side dishes, sauces and rubs (the red pepper gremolata provides a tasty and original twist on standard steak sauces). While the cuts themselves are competently prepared, they lack the flavour and sparkle that would help them be memorable. It doesn’t help that the venue is often deserted, meaning the atmosphere is rather lacking. It’s a shame, really, because Fire and Ice has the potential to be great.
