Outback Steakhouse

Aussie-themed mall eatery offering decent steaks, burgers and grills Reviews

As far as themed restaurants go, Outback manages not to push things too far: aside from a few aboriginal-style paintings, rustic décor and ’Aussie’-themed menu items (kookaburra wings, Alice Springs chicken), the restaurant sticks to the basics, dishing up good-value mall eats in pleasant surroundings. The menu is fairly standard with steak cuts measured in ounces, not grams, just to confuse metric fans. Luckily, the food is still competently prepared, mercifully lacking in grease and reasonably tasty. While it won’t win any awards for five-star dining, as mall-based steakhouses go we’ll give Outback a thumbs up.

I wanted to relate our recent dining experience last 7th July with Outback Steakhouse located in Dubai Mall. It was just plain terrible. The waiter who took our order seems to be upset that we are there occupying one of the tables. The restaurant was not busy at all yet we felt that he rushed taking our food order. He did not even bother to repeat the same. He just went back and disappeared. No smile, no daily promotion. I thought he was someone especially trained as he was wearing a yellow shirt since everyone else was wearing black. Clearly he was not. This is not the first time that we experienced an appalling service so we shrugged our shoulders and tried to make the best out of our time. Then the food came out. The Kookabura Wings were too salty. We saw whom we thought was the manager of the restaurant (wearing a checkered shirt and seems to be commanding the ones wearing black) but he did not even bother to approach our table. In fact, his eyes seem to avoid us. There was no quality check on our starter. Again, we told ourselves, "Let us not bother. Perhaps, the main course would be a treat.". Then the steaks came out. My partner ordered the Outback Special (Sirloin) and I took the New York Strip. Both were unimaginably tough. It was cooked at the right temperature but both were tough. We struggled cutting the meat with our knives and anyone who was working at the time could have noticed this. Again, no quality check. The venue that prides itself of steaks failed at this juncture. Originally, we were planning to order some desserts but decided not to after being disappointed with all this so we just took the bill. We waited 20 minutes for this to arrive as the person whom we alerted forgot about our request! I was tempted to leave without paying for anything as there was nothing good about this venue. Every aspect of the restaurant is a huge frustration considering that we spent AED 250.00 - from the front of the house who welcomed us like we’re not supposed to be there, the service, the product and down to the management - every aspect is a complete failure. I will never go back to Outback Steakhouse and will discourage my friends to visit the outlet. This will be my first and last visit to the place. In Dubai Mall, this venue has competitors such as Texas Roadhouse and Fridays where I believe my money is much valued by the company. I am hoping that the owner and management of Outback Steakhouse sees this and take immediate action at the earliest.

Outback Steakhouse Dubai Mall (22.8.)

Tried the outlet at Dubai Mall last night. First up was the black honey bread with plain butter. The prime rib pasta was a tastefully creamy dish with strips of meat and mushroom and very filling. The mango mojito was very good too. Quick service and reasonably priced food ensures a repeat visit to try other dishes. The total bill was a wallet pleasing Dhs 79. The steaks here cost between Dhs. 80-120, less than half of what is charged at other steakhouses.
