In a world of fake American 1950s diners, Johnny Rockets is the one that Elvis would have chosen. It’s as authentic as you’ll find in Dubai, although the place is dripping with more cheese than burgers. If you are going to dine at Johnny’s, do it properly; pull up a stool at the stainless steel counter, summon a friendly waitress decked out in yellow polyester and order huge, tasty burgers covered in pickles and cheese along with fries smothered in chilli. Put a dime (dirham) in the jukebox and pick your favourite song from the ‘50s – but wait, the jukeboxes don’t work! Make sure you finish your meal with one of Johnny’s delicious shakes.
