Moulin D’or Bakery and Grill
Positioned almost directly opposite the famous Al Reef Bakery, Moulin D’or does a good job rivalling its neighbour in the manakish stakes, and goes one further by offering punters a cafe in which to eat their piping-hot purchase. While there’s a more formal dining area upstairs if you fancy a sit-down meal, the bright cafe downstairs is a good spot for people watching – especially if you opt for a table outside. The lamb kofta is particularly well-spiced, the shawarmas stuffed generously with meat, the zaatar manakish pungent and the bread – this being a bakery, after all – still has that fresh, doughy bounce to it. If you’ve got room, there are rows of enticing cakes lining the glass-fronted cabinet, or alternatively pick up a box of Arabic sweets on your way out to scoff later – those extra inches around the waist might never have been more worth it.
