Bilad Al Sham
The decor and menu are run of the mill, yet the food is fresh, tasty and great value 1 Reviews
Bilad Al Sham stands out, if not for its flashing moon-and-stars sign, then for its queue of eager customers queueing outside for shawarmas. Inside, the restaurant follows the standard MENA blueprint – tile floor, basic wooden tables and chairs, slightly wrinkled tablecloths – as does the menu, with the addition of a handful of seafood and steak dishes. The food itself is delightfully fresh, from the crispy fried pitta in the fattoush to the freshly carved chicken in the shawarma sandwiches. Staff are friendly and efficient, with impeccable English, and the final bill is often cheaper than the cab journey home. Thrifty types can jump aboard the new Green Line metro at the nearby Airport Free Zone station – now that’s what we call a bargain night out.
