King Koshari

It's hard to find and serves one dish - two reasons we love it Reviews

‘Budget’ and ‘backstreet’, for better or for worse, are two words synonymous with Old Dubai dining experiences, which is exactly what makes King Koshari so intriguing. The restaurant boasts a colourful, kitsch and clean interior, designed in the style of a street (complete with lamppost, a pedestrian crossing leading to the checkout, and proper pavements). The restaurant serves one dish, a ‘koshari’, which is a hugely popular form of street food in Egypt. For those unfamiliar with the concept, the dish itself comprises rice, macaroni, and spaghetti topped with tomato sauce, chickpeas, lentils and onions. The koshari is served alongside a small pot of chilli sauce and another of pungent garlic vinegar, which gives the contrasting texture of pasta and rice a wonderfully tart tang. In an area choked with Western fast-food chains, King Koshari has created a wonderful niche for itself.

Extremely value for money and great food for less! They only serve one dish and the taste is probably not as authentic as the koshari served in Egypt, but nonetheless for the price it is a fabulous option. Their rice pudding is fairly decent too.
