Mamma Mia!

Eccentric pizzeria is one to watch for the future 40 Reviews

Upon entering you may think you have stumbled into a stage production of The Merchant of Venice: the centrepiece is a large, leafy (and fake) tree, surrounded by faux Venetian furniture. The walls are adorned with murals depicting chefs laden with pizzas, and there’s even a twee outdoor terrace. There are many pizzas to choose from and the menu is split into ‘traditional Italian’ and more modern pizzas. If you have a big appetite, the Mamma Mia! Special with satiate it – an orgy of every kind of meat imaginable (other than the oinking variety), as well as mushrooms and peppers. While it may not serve the best pizza in town, Mamma Mia! gets marks for its spirited attempts.

This is one of the best pizzerias that i have been to in a long time,
The staff is friendly and service is good even when its busy.

The atmosphere is great in the evenings, and the food is fab.
Italian cuisine is my favorite cuisine out there, but most restaurants just don't taste very fresh, like your eating oil out of a can and you paid a lot of money for it .
its always missing something or just too greasy or disgusting.

I don't have that problem with Mamma Mia. The food is a good reminder of food the way it should be, fresh & tasty.

I don't always go to the restaurant, if I don't feel like being social, i order from the menu to go and enjoy it at home with a glass of wine.

I would definitely give Mamma Mia five stars and two or three thumbs up for their amazing food and effort that's going into the place. ;-)
I'm heading back to Dubai next week so i will be ordering delivery on the way back from the airport. it's me you guys, I'm on your fan page all the time :-)!!

This joint needs a complete work over. Service at lunch was very slow with unacceptable food quality

The Bruchetta toast was fine but the chopped tomatoes tasted like the inside of the refrigerator where they had sat for several days

The gilled chicken special was dry and tasteless

The spaghetti bolognesa tasted like it came out of a can

Hope they bring in new management soon I would not recommend this location to anyone

Mamma Mia is my favorite pizzeria in Dubai. The pizza is proper Italian, thin crust with really nice mozzarella. I frequently travel to Dubai every other month for work and stay in the marina. I use a "Timeout City Card" which gets me a nice discount too! The atmosphere is really laid back which makes it perfect for my meetings. Overall, I would highly recommend Mamma Mia if you’re looking to go some place special to have some excellent food with great surroundings & ambiance.

I visited this place with a couple of my colleagues while on a business trip and we dined like kings! Mamma Mia ristorante & pizzeria was a fantastic experience. It was really obvious the food was cooked using fresh ingredients, it really took us by surprise compared to the other restaurant we had tried in Dubai. My favourite was the 'mama mia special‘ what a pizza!! So tasty, finished everything, even the crust. My friend had the Pollo grilia, it was suppose to be a half chicken but looked more like a whole chicken. She said it was really juicy. We still had room for the homemade Tiramisu which we loved. The staff did a very good job of making us feel at home, waitress was very friendly. The environment provides good ambience for any sort of occasion. The olive tree in the center of the restaurant is really unbelievable. I would definitely recommend this little friendly restaurant to anyone visiting Dubai!

i liked the decor in this restaurant but i did't like the extra chairs around, colors are wonderful & it will take you to Italy but when you hear American music it will destroy it. service is good because it's small restaurant but usually when you go to Italian restaurant they serve you with delicious pastry but they don't have it. food is average, i was surprised because there is no pasta & the pizza is not wow :-( i was HAPPY to get discount by using my CITY CARD.. but i don't think i'll go there again...

I really don't agree with the grumpy reviews on here, we had a great experience. We had the cheesy garlic bread starter which was really delicious. The pasta sauces were fabulous, the bolognese and the arribiata were both delicious. We shared a carrot cake for dessert which was delightful. I visited with my kids who were visiting Dubai, it was a great night. We had a lovely time and will be back to try the pizza!

We decided to try this restaurant as we had the Time Out 2 for 1 voucher. The decor is interesting, homely and eccentric. The tableware and glasses however are horribly cheap and greasy. We were taken to our table with not one word from our waiter (who looked like the owner). There were 2 guys working in the open kitchen, disappointingly operating a regular oven as opposed to a stone bake oven (one of which seemed to double as a delivery boy). Also loitering about were 2 'waitresses' who couldn't take our order and seemed to do nothing but stand miserably and stare into space very near our table which was rather uncomfortable.
The menu is a mixture of a few classics and some bizarre combinations -hoisin duck anyone? I eat out regularly in Dubai and have eaten pizza all over the world, including Italy and must say this is the worst I have had. I chose the classic capricciosa. The base was like a reheated frozen biscuit, uninspiring tasteless mozzarella topped with a million slivers of old mushroom and artichoke. I had changed the turkey ham to pepperoni - the quality of which was poor and processed, but to my surprise this was added as an extra to the bill. When pointed this out the waitress was surly and flung the altered bill at me without a please or thank you. The pizzas are already over-priced for what they are.
I strongly suggest you think twice before visiting this place, there are many other great pizza places in Dubai - this one doesn't deserve anyone's hard earned cash.

I recently discovered Mamma Mia and am so glad that I did. The atmosphere was very warm and friendly and just perfect for a family meal with my kids. We ordered the Mamma Mia Special pizza which was absolutely delicious! The crust was just right and all the ingredients tasted fresh. The pizza was served hot and bubbling. It was one of the best I’ve had outside of Italy. I also ordered the Insalata Caprese which was also fresh and delicious. Our server was extremely warm and friendly and overall we found the food was great value. I would highly recommend Mamma Mia!

I look forward to eating here whenever I come to the city. The pizza is great, I always go for the wacky specials which are unique and always delicious. I'd recommend going with friends and just splitting slices ranging from sweet and sour chili sauce pizza, to my dad's favorite, spaghetti. Great place to eat, and the people there are extremely nice and helpful.
Two thumbs up!!

Being from the states (where pizza restaurants are on every street corner), my family and I love pizza. Well when we went to Dubai, we said so long to our favorite cuisine because we had a feeling we wouldn't be having any of it while roaming the streets of this incredible city.

One evening after walking several miles, our legs were quite weak. We needed to refuel. I mentioned, "how about some pizza?" Thinking I would get scolded for wanting a bit of comfort from our home country, my parents actually looked at me with puppy dog eyes and agreed. After we made this decision, we picked up our walking pace, knocking everyone out of our way; we were officially on the hunt to find a delicious, cheesy pizza pie!

MAMMA MIA did we find what we were looking for!

My eyes widened when we check out Mamma Mia's menu before venturing in... Gamberi Alla Marinara (king prawns), oh yum! Penne Alla 4 Formaggi, that couldn't get in my mouth quicker... And the pizza selection, oh the pizza selection! I had never even thought to put squid and crab on pizza before in my life, but Mamma Mia has done just that.

My family and I sat down at a nice table in the center of the action and immediately buried our noses in our menus. We wound up each getting separate appetizers and then decided to share three pizzas.

I ordered the King Prawns (couldn't resist), my father ordered the Zuppa di Mare (seafood soup), my sister ordered the Smoked Salmon Salad, as did my mother and my brother ordered BBQ Chicken Wings (talk about really wanting to feel at home again).

As for our pizza selection, we ordered:
* Tandoori with chicken tandoori, mushrooms, mixed peppers and chillies
* Mamma Mia Special with beef bacon, chicken, spicy beef, and other deliciousness
* Tonno e Cipolla which is topped with tuna, onions and cheese

I felt like I ate four Thanksgiving dinners by the time our meal was done. My brother rolled me out of the restaurant. This place was amazing. Actually, amazing is too calm of a word. This place was run into the street screaming and ripping off your clothes from happiness good.

My prawns to start were just the tip of the iceberg. They were phenomenal, nice and plump. Little did I know, I was going to be served even more delicious food as the night proceeded. Another amazing part of this evening was the prices! This food was outstanding, better than any five-star restaurant in the states, yet we left Mamma Mia without feeling as though we had no cash to buy souvenirs!

When we left the restaurant, or wait, excuse me, rolled out of the restaurant, the wait staff mentioned that they have a delivery service as well... Sadly, we were leaving Dubai two days later, but I asked them if they could deliver to my house in the US. If only!

Now when I go to pizza places back in the states, I am no longer really satisfied with the variety. I now wish that I could go back to Mamma Mia in Dubai whenever a pizza craving strikes... Sadly, that would be one expensive pie! (Oh but so worth it).

We went to this restaurant after having bought coupons online. The manager Rob is Scottish and was nice enough to explain that due to loads of last minute bookings he did not have any dinner openings. So we went for a late lunch. The food was very very good. Best calamari I have ever eaten in my life and I have had it all over the world. The Tunisian lady who was there was very sweet. FRESH is what all the food can be described as. As I happen to be a Julio Iglesias fan and they were playing his Cd things went by splendidly.
Again not the cheapest place to eat, but with the coupon it was well priced to say the least. The decor is trying to give you an Italian feel and if you use your imagination you get the idea. I had read a couple of reviews knocking the staff, but trust me they are quite nice, but they are not Filipino's so they won't kiss your backside...
Overall it is worth trying and the food is very very good and FRESH. So go for it and say CIAO Bella on your way out!!!
Thanks guys we had fun, hope you run another special on Cobone or Living Social etc. We will be BACK!!! :-)

Love the ambience, love the service and love the food most of all! We even had our sons birthday here.

They did pizza live stations, had pizza & pasta stands all around the restaurant. i wasnt sure if this would work but the kids loved it, the birthday song and cake at the end was a great touch, we really enjoyed the evening and have lots of photos to show for it.
Thanks to the manager i also sent my husband for a few hours of cooking lessons and he absolutely loved it! only in the pizza kitchen but thats what he wanted.

I would like to mention about the freshness and delicious taste of Vegetarian Pizza, it's just amazing. we always have it when we go in with the kids.

They had a lot of types of pizzas that I never heard of, I usually cook Pizza at my home with my husband and try to copy them but they just dont taste as good.

if you want to have a good pizza in dubai mamma mia is the place to go, they also have delivery but we are too far from the restaurant. we will be back.

Let me start out by saying this was my very first trip to Dubai, so I was not sure how I was going to like the food in general. My husband and I chose to stay at the Radisson Blu going on the rave reviews we'd heard from some colleagues of ours, not to mention how central the location was to all the activities we were interested in. It's in the heart of Dubai marina and that was perfect for us.
I honestly did not expect much from the restaurant when I saw the prices, but boy, was I wrong. My mother is Italian so I have been eating the stuff all my life (north coast of Sicily to be exact), I have very demanding tastes when it comes to Italian food. I believe most Italians would agree, Mamma Mia's is NOT to be missed on your next trip to Dubai. Even if you're not staying at the Radisson, it's worth the trip. Let me rephrase that-- MAKE THE TRIP. This was the best restuarant we dined at our entire vacation and definitely had the best pizza i have ever had on holiday. If I had to pick a favorite starter, it would probably be the calamari fritti. Calamari is hard to do right, no matter where in the world you eat it. I didn't expect to find perfect calamari in Dubai, but they have it. The batter is crisp, but not too thick, and the calamari is not chewy at all! At a close second would be the zuppa di mare, aka one of the best seafood soups I've ever experienced. I was extremely surprised that the squid wasn't at all rubbery either, but perfectly cooked. The staff was absolutely delightful. I wish it could have gone more but they we running a promotion that was coming to an end and the dam place was always full in the evenings...

The manager really went out of his way to get us a table one night, we did have to wait but there was not much they could do about that.
The decor inside was warm and relaxing. We ate at Mamma Mia's three times during our trip, we will be back next year and I hope nothing has changed as we are really missing the pizza already.

p.s to the manager i will bring you that bottle as promised. :-)

This restaurant was really something I stumbled upon during my stay at the Radisson Blu and I was really pleased with the overall experience with this pizzeria. The service was kind to me and my family and the food was delicious and it came pretty fast. And to top all of that the cost was surprisingly affordable.

I ate the Filetto di Manzo ( a masterfully crafted tenderloin and veggies), as promised on the menu really high quality and very good size considering the price.

My wife ate the Polo Griglia(a half chicken and veggies). We both absolutely loved our meals so much we actually wanted to take our friends their the next day but the were fully booked all week cause of some promotion that was coming to an end.
We were happy enough to pay in full, no need for discounts here, the prices are very good anyway.

The staff were very attentive and friendly seemingly to have ESP as they were always bringing what we were just about to ask for. I/we highly reccomend this restaurant and we will surely be back(if we make it back to dubai one day)

following the review we have decided to give it a try... it's with no doubt one of the most bad service experience we had! specially from the manager! first when coming in at lunch time, the restaurant is absolutely empty, we asked to be seated outside as the weather was really nice, the manager said no sit nside is better!!! this was quiet rude, eventhough we did not like it we had no choice than sitting in the restaurant inside and alone! the food was very average, no ambious whats so ever! we had our starter and left and will never come again. service must improve, lack of hospitality is a key for having this restaurant quiet empty..

Best cheese pizza in town

We stopped here for dinner. I had given up on pizza in Dubai and I was sure this place will be the same as the rest.

I went for the traditional Italian pizza, the primavera pizza was amazing, I had never tried a white pizza before, means there is no red sauce, the crust was amazing.

We enjoyed it so much that we went back for more, to try the formaggi and the Gorgonzola pizza, also white, although they are more expensive, they are really nice too.

The free parking and outside terrace are an added bonus, my wife is a real pain when it comes to parking the car and not being able to smoke, so I had no problems with her for a change!!

This place is great value for money and I hope they open a branch closer to down town as we want to use the delivery service but we are too far, if anyone from mamma mia is reading this! Come on now, please open in down town, i want my pizza at home!

Whether you are a fan of pizza or not - I highly suggest this restaurant!

My husband and I recently dined at Mamma Mia! on the recommendation of some Italian tourists we met at the Marina. “This is the best Italian food in Dubai!” they exclaimed, and indeed, they were correct. We had an excellent meal right next to the large olive tree (!) of pasta and risotto. Finding quality risotto is a difficult task, but Mamma Mia! really nailed it. The texture was absolutely perfect: not too al dente, not too mushy. My husband was pleased with his Arrabbiata, claiming that the sauce was fresh with just the right amount of spice. Afterward, we enjoyed an espresso on their lovely outdoor terrace. The restaurant's ambiance is just as wonderful as the food.

Dining at Mamma Mia! was an overall pleasant experience that I would recommend to anyone seeking quality Italian food and a relaxing meal.

Absolutely delicious and delightful! Featuring simple, yet scrumptious Italian food, this restaurant indeed serves “Dubai’s Best Pizza.” While on a vacation, my husband and I stayed at the Radisson Blu and stumbled upon this little charm. Welcoming and beckoning for all customers, this little traditional Italian restaurant /pizzeria has a menu for every palette and taste including modern style pizza, Italian favorites, and even some fresh seafood inspired dishes. Not to mention the homemade desserts! We were immediately impressed with the complimentary starter featuring the most delicious pizza bread ensemble topped with cherry tomatoes, wild leaves and parmesan cheese. Through our many travels we have indeed encountered horrible service, especially in Dubai, but this was not the case. The restaurant truly cares about their customers and their needs. The specials are to die for! For our dinner, my husband and I decided to pick two dishes, one being from the traditional section of the menu, and another representing the restaurants uniqueness as a whole—the mamma mia special pizza! This dish was our favorite of the two—featuring buttery melt in your melt crust that we had with the starter and noticeably fresh toppings. We were also especially impressed with the atmosphere. The restaurant uniquely features an olive tree in the middle of the restaurant, adding a hidden touch of talent and authenticity. Ultimately, this is one of the best restaurant experiences we have had in Dubai, considering service and quality issues we have experienced in the past. The menu was very well priced, showcasing items from all price ranges. Great food, excellent prices, quality of service, and a romantic atmosphere!!
We will go if we are in Dubai again!!

Food completely lacked in flavour and service was a joke! We had salad, pizza and main courses (prawns and chicken) and nothing was worth paying for. They gave us a few free items after they got our orders wrong twice and while the effort was appreciated, none of us would ever go back. Unsurprisingly the restaurant was almost empty on a Thursday night.

I went there with some friends thanks to the feedback the other customers wrote here on Timeout. Unfortunately our expectations have been blatantly disregarded. The management and the crew in general were inattentive and arrogant. We ordered a pizza, some "antipasti" and some main courses but it was hard to receive the right things from the kitchen. The food was pretty tasteless and bad presented. Really a bad experience. Surely, it was our first and last time in such restaurant.

We love Momma MIa . . . I think we could have been their first customers. And we have continued to go back almost weekly. The pastas are very fresh and well seasoned . . the pizzas are yummy and just the right size . . . the carpaccio melts in your mouth . . . the ambiance is sooo Italian . . . but it is the tiramisu that is to die for. Robert he owner, is very gracious. While he has had his challenges training new staff, this restaurant is one of our favorites. So nice to have found our little neighborhood Italian place right here in Dubai marina.

Now, I only ordered take out and havent actually been into the restaurant so-to-speak but I am going to assume everything is amazing and give them 5 stars... because my experience with the take out, over the phone was nothing but AWESOME! The service, and very hard to come by in the UAE to a Western standard, was outstanding - so much I wrote about them on my blog today http://whentherumisgone.com/2011/08/09/a-moment-of-ease-in-dubai/ please check it out. Honestly, this place goes above and beyond in the service and for a take out experience, which I have to say is hard as you are not benefiting from the atmosphere of the restaurant, service on hand and the presentation as chefs pride themselves in romancing their creations to their customers, was great! When the food arrived, it was hot, incredibly fresh in flavor and satisfied a very hungry appetite. I craved pasta, and pasta is what I ordered. The sauce was delicioso and I will certainly be enjoying their meals in the very near future. Take out, sure... but I am looking forward to dining in their restaurant in person... sooner than later.
Thank you Mamma Mia! Yum.

Mamma Mia!
Where do I begin?
I recently travelled to Dubai with my partner as a much needed holiday from the rat race back home. We aren't particularly familiar with Dubai so naturally when we got there we were quite overwhelmed by the number of Restaurants in the Area.
We did however, get speaking to a group of travellers at our Hotel whom recommended Mamma Mia to us - they desribed the place as a sensory feast with really authentic pizza.
My partner is a pizza maniac and I myself was eager to taste some homey food (ironically).
First I need to commend the restaurants owners on creating a really beautiful restaurant. It isn't tacky in the slightest like many pizza joints are! It is really quite stunning yet casual enough to make you feel comfortable and more of a friend to the restaurant than 'just another customer'.

The menu is really broad and it was incredibly difficult to make my decision because I literally wanted to feast on pretty much everything on the Menu.
A personal tip - Try the Suppli al Telefono... Amazing. It melts in your mouth and only made me more and more eager to try the Pizza.

I chose the Mamma Mia special being the greedy thing I am. But all of the pizza's sounded lovely! The prices are really reasonable and the sizes of the pizza's are generous! The pizza crust is just heavenly - it is extremely fresh, light and doesn't cause bloating like I find with a lot of pizza crust these days. The cheese's are full of flavor, the meats were very fresh and I finished the entire thing!

My partner tried the Primavera which was a gorgeous looking Pizza of Mozzarella, Arugula, Cherry Tomatoes and Parmesan - it was delicious!!! It must be a specialty because it was extremely popular we noticed, so don't go past it!

Nothing about this Restaurant is generic - it's very traditional in it's values, tasty, and clearly made with love! We will definitely be back and we hope you take the time to check it out because we really just loved it..

We went to Mamma Mia for our anniversary - and it was such a nice experince! much better than the other pricey places we've been to such as bussola! the decor is really warm and makes you smile - and i totally agree about the music! every track we listened to was nice! the staff is friendly and we got a salad and an appetizer on the house!! made the experince even more enjoyable!

everything we ordered was vegetarian - and it was delicious! we had the arabiata pasta and it was soooo fresh and it was truly al dente - not like many other places here

we also got the spicy vegetarian pizza - and they had REAL mushrooms on top of the pizza - not the canned variety - soooo yummyy!! especially with the leftover pasta sauce

we were so happy for the food that we actually thanked the staff and told them what a lovely experince we had

my only wish is that they serve whole wheat pasta as well as the regular kind.

otherwise the place is superb! cant wait to go back again after ramadan!

This was my first time eating at this place but i can tell you we will definitely be back again! Excellent food, great service, and wonderful atmosphere, and friendly staff.

We ordered a big Greek salad to start with and it was much better then I expected. one of the best salads I’ve had in awhile, the dressing on it was so good i asked for some more as I was getting to the last few bit of green. We also ordered the primavera pizza which YOU MUST GET. It was incredible,
it was proper thin crust, but not soggy and wet like the others in Dubai or the processed frozen type, Proper homemade dough. it also had lots of arugula and tomatoes on it.
I would say that is the best pizza I have had in Dubai but to be fair that’s not hard to do considering the standards but I guess this would be excepted as very good anywhere in the world.

I also liked how the menu had a good mix of vegetarian items as well as meat dishes. The waiter was also really good with answering our questions, and was telling us that the cheeses and sauces were all from Imported which was noticeable in the texture and taste of the food, if you know food and understand food you would really pick up on the quality here, they were really good.

If you decide to get dessert i recommend the tiramisu, usually i don't like tiramisu because a lot of restaurants don't know how to make it any good, but this tiramisu was exceptional!

Overall the food was amazing and one of the better places I’ve been in awhile, for Dubai this is good is gets at these kind of prices and the best thing is now they deliver and I have had the primavera again since then and I think I’m addicted to this pizza. If you haven’t tried the pizza do it at least once, its almost the same price as the other places but the quality and taste is in a different league completely.

I hope they manage to keep the pizza at this standard as really happy to finally be able to eat something that resembles the true Italian pizza. Mamma Mia thank you x

I have been in Dubai for past 6 years and love the wide range of restaurants available. I eat out 3 times every week and am an Italian food aficionado. I have been to almost every italian restaurant in town, will the ones that are in the new Dubai area.

This restaurant provided me and my family with extremely sweet experience, I have been 4 times since it opened. It did take months for it to open, we were wondering if it will open at all but it was worth the wait all the way.

First time we went we ordered Spaghetti al Ragú Bolognese and I ordered the premivera Pizza and Greek Salad & seabass. The pizza I had was hands down the best I had in dubai, we always avoid pizza here, had too many bad experiences and we went here for the italian food not the pizza and the waiter suggested at least 1 pizza with our pasta and seabass.
I usually leave out the crust but this was so crunchy and tasty i didn’t have any second thoughts, forget the low carb diet that the wife goes on about, its impossible to say to No to that crust, cherry tomatoes and parmesan that really do make such a tasty fresh and light combination. its the same pizza as the picture above.
.
Great selection of Italian food and most importantly great customer service which is rare in Dubai.

This place is really something special, finally there is a place in duabi that you can call your local Italian, if your looking to get away from it all this is the place to go!! Will really make you forget all your troubles.

p.s This is the only restaurant i been to in Dubai in so many years that plays amazing songs one after another!! That makes a big difference to me every time.

The Timeout review above does NOT do this place justice. If you didn't want a pizza with an orgy of meat on it, you shouldn't have ordered the pizza that's advertised as an orgy of meat!!!! Anyway, the pizzas are by far the best thing on the menu - I always (literally like 3 or 4 times a week these days) order the Primavera (ruccola, tomato, light cheese, white sauce) which is the most delicious thing I've eaten in Dubai, hands-down. Frankly, it doesn't even matter what you put on it, the amazing part is the dough/crust which is so much better than anything I've had in Dubai (or back in the US). Long story short, go try it for yourself...once again, Timeout's reviews fail to impress.

We had lunch here last week and really liked it despite the formal review above.

We were staying at the radisson blu next door and popped in for a quick meal.

We ordered a traditional pizza, burger and a pasta and we all really enjoyed our meals, the burger in particular was really good, very fresh!

We were given a complimentary dessert of home made tiramisu which was fantastic!

The service was also verty good, with the waiters eager to offer recommendations and help with the menu.

We would definately come back next time we are in Dubai!
