Zyara
Charming but rough-round-the-edges restaurant 4 Reviews
The restaurant is, to put it mildly, a little rough around the edges, though it’s all the more charming for it. Take a seat outside (weather permitting) and peruse the menu, which features mezze classics, sandwiches and traditional Arabic dishes, plus an eclectic array of sweets. Order mezze for starters and you’ll be rewarded with smooth, white hummus drizzled in supremely fresh, nascent olive oil; coarse, smoky mutabbal and halloumi that was neither too rubbery nor too chewy. For mains and instead stick to Middle Eastern fare, such as succinctly named meat and rice, presented with a form of kabsa (a huge pile of lamb chunks and brown rice, with scatterings of cashews and cinnamon). Zyara is not a bad little lunchtime spot, providing you’re not a stickler for service and stick to the Middle Eastern dishes.
