Ruth’s Chris Steak House has landed in Dubai Marina, boasting (like all self-respecting restaurants these days), a bar/lounge and a bigger restaurant area than the original in The Monarch Dubai. But bigger isn’t always better, and the new instalment of the American steakhouse lacks the intimate, old-school charm of the original. What’s more, the venue feels a little too hollow – not a great deal of imagination has been invested in the decor, and the restaurant and lounge area could easily be written off as ‘just another’ generic hotel venue by anyone unfamiliar with the Ruth’s Chris brand.

That said, my date and I were impressed by how busy the restaurant was only a couple of weeks after opening. Nearly every table was full and a welcome buzz pervaded the venue. Likewise, service was swift, friendly and well-polished – no soft-opening excuses here – and we were soon being talked through the options by a knowledgeable waiter who guided us towards the ‘Crabtini’ starter and the barbecue shrimp. In this instance service was a little too swift: both starters arrived before our drinks, which we found a little disconcerting, though it meant we could avoid picking at the cold, unappetising bread that had found its way to our table.

Though served in an impractical martini glass, my crabtini proved a tasty mix of soft, sweet crab flesh and punchy citrus. My date, on the other hand, enjoyed her prawns and happily mopped up the remaining sauce, but felt that the dish lacked finesse.

The steaks arrived speedily, though once the meat, the side dishes and the condiments, had been laid out, the table felt cluttered and claustrophobic. While I appreciate that Ruth’s Chris always serves its steak on a small plate, the diminutive kidney-dish-style tableware suffocated the appearance of the meat. Though appearances shouldn’t matter, considering we were paying almost Dhs300 per steak, we wanted it to look and taste fantastic.

In terms of the latter requirement, both my New York strip and my date’s slightly more tender ribeye were cooked very well. However, Ruth’s Chris’s style of cooking steak in butter made my New York strip too rich.
I was also confused by some of the condiments – the notion of having a blue cheese crust with a steak would surely suffocate the meat of its natural taste? The sides, meanwhile were fair, though they felt as though they were an afterthought.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House has found a niche for itself in Dubai Marina, so it’s destined to do well – especially when the after-work crowd starts filling the lounge area. However, there are still tweaks to be made
in the kitchen to ensure the food warrants the custom.

The bill (for two)
1x Barbecue shrimp
Dhs92
1x Crabtini Dhs92
1x Ribeye Dhs299
1x New York strip Dhs295
1x French fries Dhs31
1x Steak fries Dhs31
1x Apple crumble Dhs52
1x Sparkling water Dhs28
Total (including service) Dhs920

I was recently dining in Ruths Chris Marina and I couldnt believe what is happening over there. I was watching all the staff behaviour and it just made me cry. Some Italian Manager was introduced to us, I cant remember his name, but his behave was not acceptable. Waiters dont know what they serving and dont speak proper English. Food was just ok, nothing special, really I was just dissapointed with service over there and I heard already from my friends that is Ruths Chris going down. Well guys something must be really wrong in your management....

The staff are fab! super friendly and very informative. I wanted a fun night out with my husband, sparkly wine, great jazz, great food! We had the best evening...loved it here would go back in a second!
We started out at the bar with drinks and some light nibbles, then were moved to our table and looked after very efficiently. The service was fantastic, drinks no problems whatsoever. We were sat inside at a booth, very comfortable. We had crab cakes which were delightful packed with crab meat, and prawn starter again fresh and light. The steaks were fantastic cooked to perfection with delicious side dishes, asparagus, mash potato and creamy spinach, wonderful! Yes the small hot plates the meal was served on, we had not seen before, but we loved this. The Jazz was great, we personally look for evenings with live music. We had a wonderful time, thank you Ruth Chris steakhouse staff for an enjoyable evening and left with a beautiful rose :)))

We were really looking forward to trying Ruth's Chris in the Marina, as we'd never been to one before.
The bar had a nice atmosphere and the bar tenders were attentive & knowledgeable.
Once sat down at the table, we browsed the menu, there was an 'early bird special' which consisted of 2 courses for 149 dhs, however the 2 courses could only be main course and dessert, and there was only a choice of 3 dishes on each - not a great variety, so we opted for the normal menu selection.
The starters were good - french onion soup, and stuffed mushrooms with crabmeat (although the garlic was slightly over powering and the dish was too heavy for a starter).
The maincourses were appalling, and a complete let down. The ribeye's were fatty and all they tasted of was butter. We managed a few mouthfuls each, and had to leave the rest. The potato gratin was covered in a thick layer of cheese, again the potato was lost and all it tasted of was butter. The spinach was average.
We had to complain as the steaks were close to in-edible, and not worth the high price one bit.
The manager handled it well and certain dishes were removed from the bill.
A real shame. We won't be returning. Doesn't come close to the Meat Co or West 14th. Disappointing.

This was our first visit to a Ruth's Chris and we were expecting good things - we were there fo a double Birthday celebration with our Daughter and family friend. Initially, service at the bar was good, banter with the bar staff was pleasant and the atmosphere was relaxed. When we proceeded to the table, things took a downturn. Drinks orders were missed and my wife ended up sitting with no drink for quite a while whilst we tried to get someone's attention. Starters were good, the beef carpaccio was particularly tender and well presented. Main courses were good, although the rib-eye was flavourful but excessively fatty. The Filets and T-bone were nicely cooked although not up to the standard of JW's Steakhouse, for example. Desserts were the let-down of the evening, the cheesecake wasn't set properly, running out of the base when the first segment was cut out, the key lime pie was even worse, the lime a little overpowering but crucially the topping was again runnier than custard and the whole pie collapsed when the first portion was cut.

Highlight was the ambience, nicely lit and relaxed music. Staff were good but not exceptional, food was average.

Not a horrible experience but not great either. Would we go back? Well, not if I was organising it but I wouldn't avoid it either. Just average.....

We visited Ruth's recently and we will unfortunately not go back, it was just not that special for the price. Unlike the Timeout reviewer I do not like the small, extremely hot plates. One is unable to turn the plate or move the meat, and the heat on the very hot plate cooks the food further. I was not bowled over with the ribeye, but the couples fillet on the table next to us looked great. The service is excellent - really a benchmark for anyone in Dubai. The wine selection is good and the dessert is fine as well. Maybe that is the issue, everything is fine but not Wow! For 1000 dhs + for wine, main and dessert I want WOW.

This is exactly what the Marina needs, a modern steak house with great food, excellent service and a great atmosphere. I understand what the Timeout review is saying but if they would have made it an identical copy of the Monarch then you would have criticised it for being the same. What's more the space is different so it could never be compared. I will be going back soon!
