Bypassing the bizarre decor (there appears to be a mummified parachutist dangling from the ceiling), Biggles is the epitome of English pub. It’s arguably a match day haunt, with three plasma screens that have just about every angle covered – the centrepiece screen is positively massive – and there’s a fair few regulars each week.

Don’t expect culinary fireworks, but if you’re after simple pub grub, such as fish and chips, bangers and mash and a whole vat of mushy peas, you won’t leave disappointed.
