From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2008

What lies in wait here is a traditional Thai haven laced with artefacts and majestic wood panelling, not dissimilar to the shop that Randall Peltzer bought Gizmo in the movie Gremlins.

The combo starter is essentially Thai-style tapas, and everything on it is a triumph. Quality chicken satays, prawn and chicken housed in crispy pastry parcels, crab meat dumplings and chunky prawns wrapped tightly in dried noodles are all featured – making this one of the most inspired ideas we’ve witnessed.

Even the sauces aren’t merely token accompaniment, with the classic sweet chilli and rich nutty dips the pick of a petite five-piece. For the mains, green and red curry feature heavily on the menu and more than justify their prominence, but try the steamed hammour in lime and chilli as well.

The presentation of the fish is outstanding, and the moist flesh will slide down easily, while cheekily tingling your palate. The chicken and cashew nut and beef in oyster sauce are both classic dishes and worthy of your attention – once again illustrating Sukhothai’s knack of upholding Thai tradition and flavours to perfection.

We did a online booking, dinner for three people and as per the promotion advertised on the hotel website it was a 30% discount for online booking from 0730 to 2100 hrs.

Wheras the staff refused to honour the promotion and finally gave only 20% discount.

Food is good but the serving staff does not have the knowledge of the restaurent promotions, some of the sweet dishes shown on the menu are not available (we ordered custard in coconut shell).

Its a nice place for dinner but be careful with the promotions.

Hi all you food lovers,

Lets keep it simple and to the point -

The Welcome - Very nice and friendly, and now they do have Thai staff working there, including the Mgr.

The Food - Really good ,,, exceptional taste and variety.

The Decor - Well we went there for our romantic valentines day dinner, sat outside, was nice ,, with a few thoughtful touches to the table decor. One thing though, someone decided to decorate the area with candles and gas balloons,,, Bad idea people epically when there was quite a bit of breeze around. As well someone put a candle in this nice glass pot at the side of our table ,, half way through the meal it cracked due to the heat. So maybe watch out on the HSE part...

Finally - The Service.

This actually left me HOLLOW inside, it nearly negated the quality of the food etc etc. There seemed to be a serious shortage of staff. Everything we ordered came with a time delay. This i could live with but then i discovered something. There were 2 waitresses outside tending tables,,, one smart and sharp, the other just did not seem to care, at one point my wife ordered a second round of the drink she was having as the main course came and guess what ,, we only got it brought to us AFTER desert was served. This is after the waitress came to us during the main course to confirm what drink my wife wanted. Desert was the last straw - We were brought the wrong desert to start off with, then this was quickly rectified with another round of desert WHICH WAS WRONG AGAIN. This getting too much i asked how my fried bananas could get mixed up with mango dressed in a pancake with sticky rice, the blame was quickly shifted to the kitchen / Chef and i was informed that sometimes the kitchen gives out the wrong order,,,,, (you don't want to know my thoughts on that comment - this is a family forum) In my opinion, if a waitress is working there for at least 3 months, her product knowledge should be enough for her to differentiate between Pancake covered mango and fried bananas.

So to close - Go there as im sure i would again,,, but make sure the first thing you order is 'quick service' the good food will sort the rest out for you.

Very good and relatively authentic Thai food with a great Menu which makes you feel like ordering everything on it. The decor is also amazing and there is also a lady playing traditional Thai music in the middle restaurant which creates a perfect atmosphere for a Romantic meal.
It's not cheap though for 2 people it was just under 500 Dirhams not including alcoholic drinks so be prepared. One drawback of the restaurant is that none of the staff were actually Thai (the chef may have been though) and this meant that the perfect Thai service just isn't there. I would give it a good 8.5/10
