If you fancy good value Italian fare in the Bank Street area, make Pizza Express a port of call. It’s a catch-all restaurant where lovers go gooey-eyed over plastic flowers, passersby pop in to snack and browse the international press, and Arabic pop plays from corner TVs. Its all very chilled. At dinner, calzone al pollo crammed to its crimped dough edges with sun-dried tomato and pesto scores highly, as does the subtle penne contadina. But don’t overlook the caprese.
Between 12.30pm and 3.30pm from Saturday to Thursdays, try the top value lunch buffet offering all the pizza, salad and pasta you can eat. On Fridays, the buffet is free for kids. Dubai’s Pizza Express, however, unlicensed and therefore very different from its UK counterpart. Expect a bright and cheerful café rather than a dimly lit, trendy Soho jazz den.
