As chain pizza restaurants go, Pizza Express is one of the most authentically Italian, and least likely to clog your arteries with greasy overly-cheesed pizza and toppings that fall off in a huge mound when you try to pick up a slice. Instead, the pizza here is light, crispy, thin crusted and has the perfect ratio of topping to dough.

Our favourite is the arabizza – a local offering featuring spicy chicken, mixed peppers and jalapeno chillies. The giardiniera alla genovese is layered with roasted vegetables, pesto, cherry tomatoes and basil, covered in melting mozzarella and served on a wholemeal crust.

For those not in a mood for pizza, the lasagne giardiniera is a lighter take on the heavy meat lasagne, substituting bechemel and fresh seasonal vegetables for the ragu and tomato sauce.

The Dhs35 buffet from 12.30pm-3.30pm Saturdays to Thursdays, which includes pizza, pasta, salad and soft drinks, is great value for money, and on Fridays the buffet is free for kids.

It’s a great family restaurant and offers a delivery service, so you can gorge in front of the TV.
