Al Muntaha
If your idea of ‘the Dubai experience’ involves dropping mega dirhams on a meal out 3 Reviews

If your idea of ‘the Dubai experience’ involves dropping mega dirhams on a meal out, then Al Muntaha is certainly the easiest place to do it (the Dhs595 wagyu steak is a nice way to get started). It’s hard to justify the extortionate prices – a meal for two costs the equivalent of a small sofa – but the experience is priceless.
The service is superb, the lounge singer accompanied by a tinkling piano gives the place an old-school sophistication, and the decor is luxurious, if garish. The evening is consequently one of pure unashamed decadence.
However, like many works of art, the dishes can be slightly bizarre. Damien ‘half a cow’ Hirst would be impressed with the chef’s slightly experimental tendencies on the degustation menu: scallops with a spicy apple tang and white chocolate encasing put diners’ stomachs to the test. However, each ingredient is cooked to perfection, the top of the crop being the aforementioned steak.
Though the restaurant graces the 27th floor of the Burj Al Arab, the view is disappointing at night (you can see the sea, and little else). For a better vista it’s worth wandering over to the neighbouring Sky View Bar. While there, why not try the Dhs27,000 cocktail? Or maybe not.
